Sightseeing in Guayaquil

Guayaquil is not that rich of touristic sights like for example Quito or Cuenca but it has some interesting buildings and places that are really worth to visit. The Malecon 2000 is a street stretching along the waterfront of Rio Guayas. It was renovated a few years ago and is a very nice walk over the coast line and at the same time offers a good view over the river. Along the Malecon 2000 there are several shopping malls, restaurants and also an Artesania Market where you can buy traditional ecuatorian clothes and gifts. The museum Antropologico y de Arte Contemporaneo is home for modern art and a collection of precolombian handcrafts. A highlight is definitely El Parque Historico. Its an area of 8 hectar where you can observe animals like a Tapir or an Ocelot in their natural habitat. Right in the center of the city, there is another interesting park called Parque Seminario. It is populated with very friendly Iguanas that get fed daily with fresh vegetables and fruits. The iguanas are used to the people so its easy to take pictures or even touch them.
